Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi asked all airlines to use advanced technology as an anticipatory step after the Microsoft Windows server experienced disruption or down which had an impact on service activities of several airlines.

"So what will come is that we ask these users, apart from using the best technology, there is also a back up," Budi said as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, July 21.

Budi Karya said that the disruption incident could be used as an evaluation material for all stakeholders, including airlines in the country.

He encouraged all airlines to always prepare themselves and take anticipatory steps by using advanced technology and not relying solely on one system in operational services.

"So, (must) have a back up, so you can't just rely on one system, but there's always a back up," he said.

He revealed that the disruption due to Microsoft Windows that was down was felt by low-cost airline companies or low-cost carriers (LCC).

The Minister of Transportation said that the two airlines most affected by the disturbance were Citilink Indonesia and PT AirAsia Indonesia Tbk (CMPP).

Although Microsoft Windows had experienced disruptions, the impact was not too massive on the operations of the two airlines.

Budi Karya ensured that the disruption did not result in major losses or significant service disruptions for Citilink and AirAsia.

The process of handling disturbances is carried out quickly and effectively, so that the impact can be minimized.

Citilink and AirAsia, he said, had managed to recover well despite experiencing disturbances, the two airlines have now returned to normal operations.

"There were (disruptions) but not too massive. Yesterday it was indeed the LCC (low cost carrier) that was hit, especially in Citilink and AirAsia for one day it had to be manual, but the next day we were recovering," concluded Budi Karya.
