JAKARTA - Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a Bangladeshi power company, Bangladesh Limited Coal Power Generation Company (CPGCBL) for the solar power plant project (PLTS).

The PLTS has a capacity of 500 megawatts (MW) in the Moheshkhali area, Bangladesh and in various other potential areas in Bangladesh.

"We welcome the cooperation between CPGCBL and Pertamina NRE. CPGCBL is a leading electricity company in Bangladesh and Pertamina NRE has the ability and experience in managing clean energy portfolios," said Pertamina NRE Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Nelwin Aldriansyah in a statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, July 16.

The MoU was signed by the Managing Director of CPGCBL Abul Kalam Azad and the Acting (Plt) CEO of Pertamina NRE Fadli Rahman in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Monday 15 July. The signing was also witnessed by Nelwin Aldriansyah.

"I believe this strategic partnership is the foundation for cooperation that will not only improve our operational capabilities, but also encourage growth, innovation, mutual success and support Bangladesh' national energy security," Nelwin continued.

The signing of the MoU is a follow-up to the MoU government-to-government (G2G) signed between Indonesia and Bangladesh in 2017 and has gone through a feasibility study by the two energy companies.

The MoU also includes the construction of supporting facilities and becomes the basis for developing other cooperation based on the conditions and conditions mutually agreed upon.

This strategic collaboration marks a step towards the use of solutions and the development of renewable energy infrastructure in Bangladesh.

Managing Director of CPGCBL Abul Kalam Azad appreciated the cooperation with Pertamina NRE.

"We are enthusiastic about this collaboration, Pertamina NRE already has experience and a clean energy business portfolio that is quite capable in Indonesia. Hopefully this collaboration can encourage the development of clean energy in Bangladesh and be mutually beneficial for both parties," said Abul.

CPGCBL is a company owned by the Bangladeshi Government, established as a public company with the main business goal of generating electricity.

The company has a mandate to implement a power generation development scheme under the policy of Bangladesh's private sector power plant, a public-private partnership (PPP) policy or other government policy framework.

The signing of the MoU between CPGCBL and Pertamina NRE is an important milestone on the journey towards a sustainable energy future for Bangladesh.

The partnership is expected to bring significant progress in the renewable energy sector, which contributes to energy security and sustainability towards a cleaner future in the country.

Meanwhile, Vice President of Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina (Persero) Fadjar Djoko Santoso revealed that cooperation with CPGCBL is one of Pertamina NRE's efforts in capturing opportunities for business expansion abroad.

"We support Pertamina NRE's expansion, in line with its competence in managing new and renewable energy. As a subholding, Pertamina NRE also shows its commitment to grow its business independently," said Fadjar.

Currently, Pertamina NRE operates more than 2.7 gigawatts (GW) of power generation portfolios that include gas to power, solar PV, geothermal and biogas.
