Ministry Of Tourism And Creative Economy: Endowment Funds For Tourism Can Be Implemented If There Is A Legal Umbrella

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) said that the endowment fund for Indonesian tourism Quality Tourism Fund (IQTF) worth IDR 2 trillion could be realized if there was a legal umbrella.

"(Tourism endowment funds) when it comes to effect, this must have a legal umbrella. So, there must be procedures first. There must be a presidential regulation (Perpres)," said the Main Expert Tourism and Creative Economy Adyatama of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Nia Niscaya in The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno in Jakarta, Monday, July 15.

Nia said that the discussion regarding the implementation of the endowment fund was still in progress, especially giving to event events that were oriented to bring in foreign tourists or foreign tourists.

"Regarding this endowment fund, the process continues, but it is more of an event that is oriented to bring in foreign tourists. At least it exists. So, this is what we are still doing following the coordination under the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries," he said.

Even so, Nia ensured that the discussion on what events would be given the endowment funds had been discussed together with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"Later, we will update again to what extent. But the points have been (taken) in a limited session and to the upper level. Then, what types of events and this has really begun to appear in the discussion. Furthermore, we will inform you where it is," he concluded.

Previously, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno had proposed that the IDR 2 trillion Indonesian Quality Tourism Fund (IQTF) endowment fund could be used for various events such as sports competitions to music festivals.

He said that later the determination of the event would be decided by the President and Vice President of the Elect of the Republic of Indonesia in 2024-2029, namely Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

"Yesterday, we proposed Moto GP, F1 Powerboat, Aquabike World Championship, World Surf League and several other activities. Then there are also Java Jazz Festival, there are several other music festivals," Sandiaga Uno said at the Road to: Run For Independence Day 2024 event in the GBK area, Jakarta, Sunday, July 14.

Sandiaga emphasized that the IQTF tourism endowment fund will be used to fund various events that focus on quality and sustainable tourism.

Later, the tourism endowment fund will be managed by the Business Service Agency (BLU) belonging to the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu), namely, the Environmental Fund Management Agency (BPDLH).

According to him, the preparation of the Draft Presidential Regulation (Perpres) for the end of tourism funds is expected to be completed in August 2024.

"The completion is August (2024). It looks like it will be at the end of August," he said.
