Minister Of Energy And Mineral Resources Ensures Quarter-III Electricity Tariffs Don't Increase

JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif confirmed that there was no increase in electricity rates for the third quarter of 2024.

"If the electricity doesn't go up, yes," said Arifin to the media crew, Friday, June 28.

This policy is part of the Government's efforts to maintain industrial competitiveness and maintain inflation levels. According to the provisions in the Regulation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 28 of 2016 jo. Regulation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 8 of 2023, that adjustments to electricity rates for 13 groups of non-subsidized customers can be carried out every 3 months referring to changes to the realization of macroeconomic parameters, namely the exchange rate, Indonesian Crude Price (ICP), inflation, and Reference Coal Price (HBA). On a separate occasion, the Director General of Electricity Jisman P Hutajulu said, based on the parameters of the exchange rate, ICP, inflation and HBA should adjust electricity tariff or tariff adjustment rates for 13 groups of customers has increased when compared to the previous quarter.

"However, to maintain competitiveness and control inflation, the Government has decided whether the electricity tariff will remain or not increase", said Jisman in Jakarta, Friday, June 28.According to the regulation, the macroeconomic parameters used for the third quarter of 2024 are realization in February, March, and April 2024, which is an exchange rate of IDR 15,822.65 per dollar, ICP of 83.83 US dollars per barrel, inflation of 0.38 percent, and HBA of 70 US dollars tonnes according to the DMO Batubara policy.

Jisman further added that the electricity tariff for 25 subsidized groups of customers also did not increase and still received electricity subsidies.

"Including social, household, underprivileged customers, small industries, and customers who use electricity for micro, small and medium enterprises or MSMEs," said Jisman.

The government hopes that PT PLN (Persero) can continue to take operational efficiency steps and spur electricity sales while maintaining the quality of service to customers.
