JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) continues to accelerate the completion of the Capital City of the Archipelago (IKN) toll road.
After operating functionally, Balikpapan-IKN travel time is predicted to be only 70 minutes. Without toll roads, travel time from Balikpapan to IKN takes 2.5 hours.
Deputy Head of the IKN Raja Authority, Juli Antoni, said that this toll road is targeted to operate functionally by the end of July 2024.
"Usually from Balikpapan Airport to IKN it's 2.5 hours, but with what Mr. Reza and his friends are doing right now, God willing, by the end of July it can be only 70 minutes from Balikpapan Airport," he said on the official Instagram Authority IKN @ikn_id, quoted Friday, June 28.
"With the construction of the IKN toll road, the travel time from Balikpapan City to Nusantara is targeted to be shortened in August," he added.
Meanwhile, Head of the East Kalimantan National Road Implementation Center (BBPJN) of the Directorate General of Highways of the Ministry of PUPR Reiza Setiawan said the total distance between Balikpapan and the Government Core Area (KIPP) of IKN was 82.62 kilometers.
"So indeed we are building a toll road starting from Sepinggan Airport to KIPP. It is not finished yet, only partially, but functionally. That is 82.62 km we will take 70 minutes, closer, initially 2.5 hours," said Reiza.
However, when it was fully operational in December 2024, Balikpapan-IKN travel time became only 45 minutes.
"Later, when all December has reached, it will reach around 45-50 minutes," he added.
