JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) held a business meeting or business matching for the seaweed processing industry which brought together the producers of the sector with the user industry to spur absorption and sales of derivative products in the domestic market.

"The business matching event for the seaweed processing industry with the user industry is an effort to open up opportunities for business development to increase the competitiveness of the domestic industry and introduce various seaweed-based processed products," said Director of the Food, Marine Products and Fisheries Industry of the Ministry of Industry, Dyan Garneta, who is also the head of business meeting in Jakarta, Tuesday, June 25.

He said the event, which was held on June 25-26, presented 19 seaweed processing industry companies that produce products in the form of caragents, agar, bioplastics, biostimulants and fertilizers.

In addition, the Ministry of Industry also invites the seaweed user industry in the food and non-food sector under the guidance of the Ministry of Industry.

Dyan said that in the meeting between industry players and potential buyers, his party targets to generate transaction value of up to IDR 15 billion.

"We are targeting that after this activity, there will be an increase in transactions of Rp. 15 billion," he said.

He said that this business matching event for the seaweed processing industry was a routine agenda held by the Ministry of Industry.

As for the 2022 implementation, his party managed to sell seaweed processing amounting to Rp6.3 billion.

In addition, he said, related to the development of downstreaming based on biological resources, one of which is the seaweed sector, the Ministry of Industry will focus on developing the entry of seaweed commodities in the thematic downstream of superior natural resources (SDA) based industries in the 2025-2029 National Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMN).

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Industry noted that the food and beverage industry (mamin) contributed 39.91 percent to the GDP of the non-oil and gas industry and 6.97 percent to the national GDP.

GDP of the food and beverage industry increased to 5.87 percent in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the previous period of 5.33 percent.
