Sandiaga Calls South Sumatra As Part Of Strengthening Indonesian Tourism

JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said South Sumatra was one part of the region that supported strengthening the Indonesian tourism sector.

After opening the 2024 Sriwijaya Festival in Palembang, Sandiaga said that currently Indonesia's tourism is ranked 22nd out of 119 countries based on the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) issued by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

"Indonesia is up 10 places from the previous 32nd position. Now it's towards the top 20, so thank you. South Sumatra has also become part of strengthening the Indonesian tourism sector," he said, quoting Antara.

He explained that the increase in Indonesia's ranking in the Tourism Index was based on indicators of public interest from various lines.

"The indicators that we get a significant increase are indicators of interest in terms of nature, culture and priority from government policies to take care of tourism as the core economy for the welfare of the community," he explained.

In addition, Sandiaga said the Sriwijaya Festival was part of the National Karisma Event (KEN). The festival not only supports the tourism index but can also turn the economic index around.

"There are so many economic turnovers that can be produced in this event, especially the wealth of the creative economy such as coffee and art empowerment which are made into films," he said.
