Pelita Air's Strategy To Press Carbon Emissions In The Aviation Sector: Run The Sustainability Initiative Project

JAKARTA - Pelita Air is committed to reducing carbon emissions and reducing the environmental impact of flight activities. One way to do this is through the Sustainability Initiative project run by the company.

Pelita Air's Corporate Secretary, Agdya Yogandari explained that the Sustainable Initiative of Pelita Air was carried out to balance carbon emissions through the involvement of various leading communities in the environment, as well as all stakeholders in the aviation industry.

This project is based on the spirit of collaboration. We collaborate with institutions that focus on reforestation, as well as stakeholders throughout the aviation industry so that collectively they can work together to overcome environmental challenges while ensuring effective implementation," he said in Jakarta, quoted Friday, June 21.

Agdya said Pelita Air's commitment to supporting the realization of sustainable flights has also been shown since its participation in the inauguration of the carbon exchange IDX Carbon on September 26, 2023.

Furthermore, he said that this moment also made Pelita Air the first airline in Indonesia registered with IDX Carbon.

"This achievement has an important meaning for Pelita Air because it strengthens the company's dedication in accelerating the transition of global energy to net zero emissions targeted by the Indonesian government," said Agdya.

In addition, he continued, in order to support the carbon-balance initiative, Pelita Air also uses offset calculations and reductions that take advantage of the carbon footprint on the inaugural Jakarta-Banjarmasin flight which will take place on November 1, 2023.

"As part of the carbon balance initiative, passengers on this flight also get a carbon certificate," he said.

Agdya said the Pelita Air Sustainable Initiative was also carried out through the implementation of Green Operating Procedure on each flight. This procedure is applied by Pelita Air not only to save on the use of fuel, but also as an effort to reduce waste generated by commercial flight activities.

"We are taking this step as an effort to reduce deforestation, as well as buildup of packaged waste left over in-flight meals which also have an impact on the environment," he said.

For these various efforts, Pelita Air as a medium service airline (medium service airline) won an international level award 'Indonesia Sustainability Initiative of the Year-Avia' from GovMedia, a media company from Singapore who is also part of Charlton Media Group.

Pelita Air received this award at the 2024 GovMedia Conference & Awards which will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at the Marina Baytuy Expo & Convention Center Singapore.

"This award is a clear proof of Pelita Air's dedication and efforts in accelerating the transition to sustainable flights and protecting the environment for a better future," he said.
