Global 22nd Indonesian Tourism Index, Outperforming Malaysia And Thailand

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy said, based on the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) by the World Economic Forum (WEF), Indonesia is ranked 22nd globally and 2nd in ASEAN, higher than Malaysia and Thailand.

"We appreciate and thank God our position is the 22nd global position," said Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno at the Indonesia TTDI 2024 Ranking Appreciation event at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Building, Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, June 19.

Quoted from the 2024 Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) by the World Economic Forum (WEF), Malaysia ranks 35th globally, and Thailand ranks 47th globally. Meanwhile, Singapore ranks 13th globally, which at the same time delivers the Lion Country to the highest Travel and Tourism Development Index ranking in the ASEAN region.

On this occasion, the Minister of Tourism for the 2014 period, Arief Yahya, also expressed his appreciation for Indonesia's achievements. Arief Yahya has repeatedly highlighted Indonesia's success in outperforming Malaysia and Thailand.

In 2013, he said, Indonesia was ranked 70th out of 120 countries. At that time, Indonesia was lower than Singapore (10th place), Malaysia (34rd place), and Thailand (43rd place).

Arief said that at that time Indonesia was targeting to overtake the rankings of Malaysia and Thailand.

Now, Arief is satisfied with Indonesia's achievements in the 2024 Travel and Tourism Development Index which managed to skyrocket to 22nd place, and outperformed Malaysia and Thailand.

"What is satisfying is that we (Indonesia) are above Malaysia. (Above) Thailand too. Malaysia is ranked 35th, Thailand is ranked 47th," said Arief Yahya.

Arief Yahya said that this achievement is the highest legacy for the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. He revealed that in fact he only aspired to make Indonesia successfully penetrate the 30th rank.

My dream is actually only to rank 30. So ranking 22 is beyond my expectations. This is legacy, this is probably the highest legacy," said Arief Yahya.
