JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) together with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) inaugurated the Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) at the KLHK office, Gelora, Central Jakarta. The inauguration of this SPKLU, which is part of the commemoration of World Environment Day, is a form of synergy between the two parties in reducing carbon emissions in the transportation sector and supporting the energy transition agenda in Indonesia.

The Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya, revealed that massive use of electric vehicles can reduce Indonesia's dependence on fossil energy and switch to more environmentally friendly electrical energy.

"By reducing dependence on fossil fuels and switching to electric vehicles that use renewable energy, we can reduce CO2 emissions and their negative impact on climate change," Siti Nurbaya explained on Sunday (9/6).

Siti Nurbaya also fully encourages the use of electric vehicles in Indonesia. He has invited all levels of Echelon I KLHK to use electric vehicles as daily official vehicles.

"Emissions of exhaust gases from fossil fuel vehicles are the main contributors to air pollution. Therefore, the transition to electric vehicles is an important solution that we must encourage and implement," said Siti Nurbaya.

On another occasion, PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said that as one of the SOEs given the mandate to oversee the energy transition in Indonesia, PLN continues to strive to carry out concrete actions to realize a carbon-free Indonesia in 2060. One of them is by massive EV infrastructure development.

PLN is ready to support the energy transition in the country, one of which is through the massive provision of EV infrastructure. We continue to build this infrastructure from upstream to downstream so that people are no longer worried about using electric vehicles, because the infrastructure is ready," said Darmawan.

Meanwhile, General Manager of PLN Main Distribution Unit (UID) Jakarta Raya Lasiran said that for the Jakarta area and its surroundings, PLN has built 113 SPKLUs in 98 locations that can operate for 24 hours non-stop. Lasiran emphasized that PLN will continue to build SPKLU in locations that are easily accessible to the public.

"We will continue to add SPKLU, especially in public places that are easily accessible to the public, such as malls, terminals, stations, public parking lots, to rest areas," said Lasiran.

In order to make it easier for the public to use electric vehicles, PLN has also provided EV Digital Services (EVDS) on the Super App PLN Mobile which can be very easily accessed by the public through private devices.

"With digitalization support, now people can enjoy special electric vehicle services ranging from looking for SPKLU and SPBKLU, applying for home charging services, conducting tests-drive, to purchasing electric vehicles at PLN Mobile," explained Lasiran.

Not only the inauguration of the SPKLU, the series of commemoration of World Environment Day was also enlivened by a convoy of electric motorcycles attended by hundreds of participants consisting of KLHK employees, PLN, and the Elders electric motorcycle community.
