M 5.8 Earthquake Shakes Mountains Papua On Friday Night

JAKARTA - An earthquake measuring 5.8 magnitude of Getaran District of Kobagma in the Central Meramo highlands, Papua Mountains. The earthquake occurred on Friday night, June 7 at 23.31 WIB.

Citing Antara, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported in an early warning that the earthquake was centered on land with a depth of 45 kilometers at coordinates 2.86 South Latitude,139.37 East Longitude or 95 kilometers from the Northeast of Kobagma.

Apart from Kobragama and its surroundings, earthquake vibrations were also felt in the Yalimo area, and Jayapura which is 147 kilometers from the epicenter based on the temporary analysis of BMKG seismological.

BMKG ensured that the earthquake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami.

However, the public is advised to be vigilant while remaining calm and not being influenced by issues that cannot be justified until the results of the analysis of comprehensive events are reported by the BMKG.
