Cinema XXI Collaborates With TUKR To Carry Out A Bankrupt Oil Collection Program That Will Be Used As Biofuels

JAKARTA - PT Nusantara Sejahtera Raya Tbk (CNMA) or Cinema XXI collaborates with TUKR to carry out a collection of refined oil program that will be used as raw material for the production of environmentally friendly biofuels.

TUKR is an Indonesian company that operates the collection of Used Cooking Oil (UCO).

"Oil waste is in disintegration from the production and business processes of Cinema XXI, by TUKR, collected as a supply of raw materials for producing biofuels that are more environmentally friendly when compared to fuel fossils. Gradually, in the future all Cinema XXI locations will participate for collection of broken oil," said Plt. Head of Cinema Operations XXI Ricky Samsoedin at a press conference at Plaza Indonesia, Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, June 5.

Ricky explained that the implementation of this program was carried out in stages as an effort to encourage energy transition and implement circular economic principles in the long term.

"Thus, even though the company's business activities are not directly related to activities that have an impact on the environment, the company remains committed to participating in protecting and protecting the environment," said Ricky.

He continued, this program is in line with the company's commitment to maintaining the quality of food and beverage products served to consumers.

"Like the use of cooking oil, we keep the color of cooking oil from getting dark or cloudy. On the other hand, we also keep this crude oil from being used and not polluting the environment," said Ricky.

In addition, he continued, the company always uses safe and environmentally friendly packaging for a series of Food and Beverage (F&B) products.

"In addition, Cinema XXI also pays attention to the use of high quality raw materials that are good for health, such as using Non-Generally Modified Organization (Non-GMO) corn beans, organic coconut sugar, and trans-fat-free oil for popcorn products," said Ricky.

On the same occasion, TUKR Head of Brand & Partnership Adhi Putra Tawakal said that the collaboration with the company in this crude oil processing initiative aims to have a positive impact on the environment and society.

"We are grateful to be part of the sustainability initiative carried out by Cinema XXI, and we hope that more companies and individuals will have the same motivation and movement to encourage Indonesia and even the world to be better and healthier," said Adhi.

Based on the TUKR report for the period November 2023 to March 31, 209 locations for Cinema XXI cinemas have participated in the crude oil collection program, with a total of 52,766 kilograms (kg) being processed.

Thus, the company has contributed to preventing about 175,027 kg of carbon emissions, maintaining the purity of up to 52,766 million liters of water, and protecting the health of more than 52,766 community members.

"This is also supported by certification from the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) owned by TUKR which is a guarantee that the Bankrupt oil waste from Cinema XXI has met the high sustainability standard requirements set by the European Union. This certification also opens access to the European biodiesel market so that oil infrequent from Cinema XXI has a competitive advantage, and has a new opportunity to be processed into sustainable fuel," said Adhi.

Meanwhile, Sustainability Analysis and Lecturer of the Environmental Engineering Study Program of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia Aulia Qisthi appreciated the steps taken by Cinema XXI in carrying out sustainability program initiatives for the environment.

'Environmental sustainability is our shared responsibility. Therefore, it is important for all parties to take part in environmental conservation efforts, and it can start from simple things around us,' said Aulia.
