JAKARTA - As an Authority (BUO) business entity that has an important role in the development of the Nusantara Capital (IKN), PT Bina Karya (Persero) (Bina Karya) agreed to cooperate with PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) in providing building materials solutions for the IKN development project.

The signing of the Cooperation Agreement on the Provision of Building Material Solutions including Cement-Based Products, Green Cement, Cement Derivative Products and Building Materials was carried out by the President Director of GIS, Donny Arsal and the President Director of Bina Karya, Boyke Prasetyanto at The East Tower, Jakarta, on Thursday 30 May.

Green Cement in its production process produces lower greenhouse gas emissions (carbon emissions) than conventional cement (OPC), but still provides equivalent performance in its designation class.

Some GIS green cement products are hidraulis cement for cement-derivative infrastructure projects and applications such as paving porous for inundated water solutions, SpeedCrete for dry fast concrete solutions, PCC cement for general infrastructure and soil stabilizers, slag cement for marine structure, highrise building and dams, as well as cement masonry for non-structural applications.

Greenement from GIS has so far produced a lower reduction in carbon emissions by 38 percent per tonne of cement than the OPC. GIS's readiness to provide green cement is expected to answer the needs of building materials solutions that are more environmentally friendly. Not only for the supply of green cement, this collaboration between SIG and Bina Karya also includes the use of assets and supporting resources for business activities in IKN and partner areas managed by both parties, as well as other potential collaborations.

Deputy Minister of SOEs, Kartika Wirjoatmodjo said that the signing of this cooperation represents two major projects, namely IKN which is a symbol of the State's commitment to Net Zero Emission, and the commitment of the Ministry of SOEs which encourages all SOEs in their respective sectors to carry out measured carbon mapping and carbon reduction.

"In the context of national carbon reduction, we want there to be efforts in the cement production process that can produce strength in terms of quality and be able to reduce carbon footprint. This is one of the catalysts that can make GIS a provider of building materials in the green category because it carries out ESG principles well," said Kartika Wirjoatmodjo.

Secretary General of the Ministry of PUPR, Mohammad Zainal Fatah, said that IKN development is the government's great work to ensure that the Indonesian people have aspirations that must be resolved. As a construction service coach, the Ministry of PUPR is obliged to encourage the implementation of the principles of sustainable construction, through the green supply chain, which mainly uses local products, superior products, and environmentally friendly products.

"To optimize the use of environmentally friendly cement (Non-OPC), we cannot work alone, we need collaboration with many parties including building materials manufacturers such as GIS, contractors, and service users, in this case work units, or the private sector that invests, especially in IKN. We hope, together with SIG and Bina Karya, we ensure that these green development principles continue to be carried out to realize positive synergies, and produce large, spectacular, and certainly have an impact on all of them," said Mohammad Zainal Fatah.

Furthermore, Mohammad Zainal Fatah added that in 2024, the Ministry of PUPR will carry out the realization of more than 157 trillion APBN budgets.

"As directed by the government, the first wave of IKN development has started in 2022, with the magnitude of development in the 2022-2024 period reaching almost 80 trillion. This is certainly an opportunity for us together to optimize resources to realize IKN development according to our common goals and other development agendas as a whole," said Mohammad Zainal Fatah.

Since December 2022, GIS has been trusted to supply building materials for IKN infrastructure development needs. Cooperation with Bina Karya is targeted to be an opportunity for business growth for GIS, especially in the midst of oversupply industrial conditions, as well as expanding the impact of added value of product diversification and GIS solutions for environmentally resilient and environmentally oriented construction.
