JAKARTA - The government has set three new special economic zones (SEZs). The three areas are Bumi Serpong Damai SEZ (BSD), Batam SEZ, Riau Islands and Morowali SEZ, Central Sulawesi.
This determination is the result of a limited coordination meeting (Rakortas) for the national council of special economic zones chaired by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.

Airlangga said that BSD has been designated in the coordination meeting as a health, education, and technology SEZ.

Furthermore, Airlangga also said that the three SEZs were purely handled by the private sector without any support from the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN). However, the government supports by providing incentives in the form of exemption from duties for medical equipment entering Indonesia.
