JAKARTA - The Indonesian tourism performance index rose to 22nd place from the previous 32nd position based on the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) report issued by the World Economic Forum on May 21, 2024.

This positive achievement is expected to continue in the next government or even increase.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said this achievement exceeded the target set by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf), which is in 29th.

"The minister's target going forward after I have to raise (the number), to enter the top 20. We are grateful that in the future we can become the top 10," Sandiaga said at The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno in Jakarta, quoted Tuesday, May 28.

The minister, who is often called Sandi, assessed that this positive achievement shows that the policies implemented by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy have been more targeted, on benefits and on time.

"So, I am very proud because this time we are targeting only to enter position 29, but we are heading towards the top 20," he said.

The World Economic Forum in the release of the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) reports that the United States occupies the first position in the index. Meanwhile, Indonesia ranks 22nd out of 119 countries that are ranked.

If you look at the Southeast Asia (ASEAN) region alone, Singapore occupies the first position with a score of 4.76, followed by Indonesia in second place with a score of 4.46, Malaysia 4.28, Thailand 4.12 and Vietnam 3.96.

In detail, Indonesia got the highest score for the priority of travel & tourism category with a score of 6.03, followed by safety and security 5.77 and price competitiveness with a score of 5.44.

Despite showing positive achievements, there are still categories that need to be improved, especially in the tourism services and infrastructure categories. WEF noted, Indonesia's score for this category is only 1.90, followed by the category of non-leisure resources 3.06 and health and hygiene 3.78.

Regarding this, Sandi said the government will continue to improve services through investment in human resources (HR) and boost infrastructure development in tourism areas. "If the service can be done with investment in human resources, but if infrastructure must be built," he added.
