The Indonesian Cigarette Ginting Industry Contributes Lowly To The Value Of World Trade, This Is The Ministry Of Industry's Step To Increase Expansion

JAKARTA - The Indonesian sugar palm oil industry is still contributing low to the value of world trade. It was recorded that throughout 2022, Indonesia was only able to meet 61.8 million US dollars or 3.53 percent of the world's trade value.

In fact, globally, the trade value for cigarette-rolled products in 2022 will reach 903 million US dollars.

Related to this, the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) also requested that one of the major producers of the fastet paper industry in Indonesia, namely PT Mitra Prodin, which is located in Bali, increase its expansion to the world market because the opportunity is still wide open.

"The demand for cigarette paper rolling products in Indonesia is not yet high, but this demand continues to increase in the world market. Thus, it becomes an opportunity for local producers to develop export-oriented products," said Director General of Agro Industry of the Ministry of Industry Putu Juli Ardika in a written statement received by VOI, Monday, May 20.

Putu said, PT Mitra Prodin is one of the pre-rolled cone manufacturers in Indonesia which has an installed capacity of 2 billion cones per year and employs around 4,556 employees.

It is noted that more than 746 million pre-rolled cones have been successfully sold worldwide throughout 2021. This is supported by PT Mitra Prodin's commitment to fulfill the highest industrial standards for its products, including the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations and Canadian health regulations.

Thus, Putu continued, the Ministry of Industry also appreciates PT Mitra Prodin for absorbing thousands of workers on the Island of the Gods. Moreover, most of the workers are women.

"We also appreciate the company's contribution to the country's foreign exchange because 100 percent of its products are intended for export, with 90 percent of them exported to North America (Canada, United States and Mexico) and the rest to Europe," he said.

According to Putu, employment and increase in foreign exchange are several important functions of the industrial sector that the government continues to encourage.

"Therefore, the government continues to support industrial efforts that innovate in increasing their competitiveness and expanding the market," he concluded.
