PHR Successfully Increases Oil Production From Old Field Block Rokan

JAKARTA - Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) maximizes the aging oil field (mature) and has even been unproductive in the Rokan Working Area (WK) so that it returns and continues to produce. As a result, the old field has succeeded in increasing production coffers which aim to maintain national energy resilience.

Two old wells from Kopar Field were successfully put on production (POP), each obtained 802 barrels per day and 1,445 barrels per day.

PHR Executive Vice President (EVP) Upstream Business PHR Edwil Suzandi said that the oil field, which is old and half a century old at WK Rokan, still has the potential to be developed. One of them is Kopar Field which was discovered in 1974 with the category of small field disclosure and its location is in the middle of the Rokan WK.

Kopar is currently still productive as a primary production field in the Sumatra Light Oil (SLO) area which is located in the working area of Zone 2 and Zone 3 PHR. Almost 9 years in suspension (stopped) status without drilling, finally at the end of 2023 a number of new Kopar well drilling can be taxed. The results of the production process initially contributed quite significantly to PHR," said Edwil, quoted Monday, May 13.

Edwil explained that the initial process of drilling the Kopar well was affected by flooding due to the high rainfall that occurred in early 2024 which resulted in the overflow of the Rokan river and swamps in the drilling area, including the access road. As a result of this condition, operational activities must be temporarily suspended, including evacuating the work team and drilling equipment.

Edwil added, after some time of flood management, good news finally came from the results of the first well production or put on production (POP) process which was carried out on April 25, 2024. As a result, the initial production figure was obtained, namely 802 barrels of oil per day (BOPD).

"The second POP followed a few days later and gave a higher production flow rate of 1,445 barrels of oil per day (BOPD). This actual well production exceeds the production target," said Edwil.

Thanks to the collaboration and synergy between various functions, said Edwil, oil was finally successfully channeled from Kopar's new wells to fill the farmer's collecting station (GS) facilities which were then sent to Dumai terminal. He also emphasized that the work and production process at Kopar Field was running safely and safely.

Separately, Head of SKK Migas Representative, Sumbagut Rikky Rahmat Firdaus, expressed his appreciation for being reactivated by old wells in Kopar Field. As the largest oil producing and lifting working area in Indonesia, Rikky hopes that the resources of old wells with productive potential can continue to be reactivated (activated).

"Since the transfer of management from PT CPI to PT PHR on August 9, 2021, the average production of the Rokan WK has reached 161 thousand barrels of oil per day (BOPD), an increase from the previous 158 thousand BOPD," explained Rikky.

Rikki also said that the key to success in achieving oil and gas production success in the Rokan Working Area is that there is a change in perspective that is not only limited to maintaining production but also increasing production.

The change in mindset will give birth to innovation in the use of digitalization technology in supporting operational work. Collaboration with stakeholders is also the key to smooth operation in the regions. The pool of collaboration continues to be shown by PHR so that operational constraints in the field can be resolved," concluded Rikky.
