Adjustment Of KRL Tariffs Has Been Discussed, Will It Increase This Year?

JAKARTA - The plan to increase the Commuter Line KRL rate has been rolling since last year.

Most recently, the plan to increase the KRL rate has been discussed with the government, in this case, the Ministry of Transportation.

KAI Commuter Director of Operations and Marketing, Broer Rizal, admitted that there was a discussion regarding the increase in tariffs.

Even so, there has been no decision that the tariff will be increased in the near future.

"Proposals and discussions have been carried out yesterday. Once again, it has not been decided to be implemented," said Rizal after the 2024 Eid Transport Press Conference, in Jakarta, Tuesday, April 23.

Rizal explained that the KRL tariff issue is in the hands of the central government, in this case the Directorate General of Railways at the Ministry of Transportation.

Furthermore, Rizal admitted, if the government decided to increase the KRL tariff, then his party as the operator would run it.

"That was what was planned yesterday. That is the government's policy, if we are only executors to carry out what is the government's decision," he explained.

For your information, the current KRL rate is determined progressively. Consisting of two basic tariff components for 25 kilometers (km) and a progressive follow-up rate of every 10 km.

The first 25 km base rate is IDR 3,000. If passengers use KRL services more than 25 km, they will be subject to progressive continued rates. The continued tariff is IDR 1,000 per 10 km.
