BSI Encourages Electric Vehicle Financing To Reduce Carbon Emissions

JAKARTA - PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI) continues to encourage increased financing of environmentally friendly vehicles or electric vehicles for the community. This commitment is part of BSI's efforts to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions.

According to BSI Sales & Distribution Director Anton Sukarna, until February 2024 vehicle financing at BSI reached a portfolio of IDR 4.4 trillion with the composition of environmentally friendly vehicle financing reaching IDR 180 billion. As of February 2024, the BSI vehicle financing portfolio has increased by 48.3 percent (yoy).

Anton is optimistic that in 2024 the financing of electric vehicles at BSI will continue to show a positive trend. This is also supported by the market potential and increasing demand from the community, as well as the many policies and conveniences provided by the government for people who want to buy electric vehicles.

"Seeing the increasing trend of year on year from 2022 to 2023, the trend of selling electric cars is projected to continue to grow in 2024. Moreover, many new producers enter Indonesia, thus increasing competition in the market, one of which is by offering competitive prices for consumers who buy electric vehicles," he said, in a written statement, Tuesday, April 23.

There are several things that make electric vehicles now start to be in demand by the public. One of them is the preference of current customers which encourages the emergence of environmentally friendly vehicles (KBL) to become a separate trend.

Moreover, the type of KBL has added value for performance, features, and others. On the other hand, prices that compete with types of oil-fueled vehicles (BBM) caused by government subsidies as well as more efficient cost & maintenance calculations, as well as tax relaxation and odd-even provisions in the Jakarta area.

"Finally, of course, the community's motivation to participate in reducing carbon emissions, pollution and noise related to the use of vehicles," he concluded.
