No Longer Restricted, PMI Can Now Send Goods Up To 1,500 US Dollars Per Year

JAKARTA - The goods of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) are now exempted an import fee worth 1,500 US dollars per year or equivalent to Rp. 24 million (assuming an exchange rate of Rp. 16,201 per US dollar).

This is in line with the repeal of the PMI's number and type of goods restriction policy.

Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan said the rules regarding PMI's luggage are no longer contained in the Regulation of the Minister of Trade (Permendag) Number 36 of 2023. However, he said, they were returned to the old regulation, namely Permendag Number 25 of 2022.

As for the Minister of Trade Regulation Number 25 of 2022, this regulates the nominal value of luggage, which is 1,500 US dollars per year. Meanwhile, other types and provisions are under the authority of the Ministry of Finance through the Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK).

However, he continued, this provision only applies to PMI. Meanwhile, people who want to shop will not be limited.

"The value is only. But that's PMI, if people shop, it's not regulated, it's up to you," he explained.

Zulhas, Zulkifli Hasan's nickname, added that with the return of the rules related to PMI's luggage to the old rules, customs need to remove prohibited items.

"I said, earlier there were Customs and Excise friends, just consider it 1,500 US dollars to be checked, if nothing is prohibited, just issue it," he explained.
