JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, asked the government to protect all road infrastructure and other supporting facilities used by travelers in Eid al-Fitr 2024. This is because public safety must be a priority.

"Anticipate things that must be done by all stakeholders, both from the side of the road and all the facilities used by the community for homecoming," said Puan quoting Antara.

Moreover, a few days ago there was a landslide on the Bogor-Ciawi-Sukabumi (Bocimi) KM64 to Jakarta-Sukabumi toll road.

"And for toll roads that collapsed a few days ago, the government must immediately make improvements and prepare a safe alternative route for travelers," he said.

Puan also reminded the government to ensure smoothness and security of the community during the 2024 Eid homecoming or Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijriah.

"I ask the government to maintain smooth and safe homecoming and return because it is reported that millions of people will go home from today until next week," he said.

He asked all officers on duty to provide the best service for travelers, starting at the Trans Java toll road, stations, ports, terminals, and airports.

"Of course, not only in areas where there are many travelers, such as from Jakarta to Java, but also in other areas, including the trans Sumatra toll road," he said.

In addition, Puan asked for access to health services needed by travelers to be available at homecoming posts, both on toll roads, arterial roads, stations, terminals, and airports.

"Health services should include emergency services," he said.

He added that local government officials together with relevant stakeholders must also be prepared to welcome the arrival of travelers in their respective regions, including by providing supervision of crowded centers and tourist attractions.

"Because during Eid homecoming, people also usually vacation with their families. Safety and comfort in tourist attractions and crowded centers must also be considered," he said.

On the other hand, Puan appealed to the public to travel safely home, following the BMKG's prediction which stated the potential for rain with moderate to heavy intensity in some parts of Indonesia during the 2024 Eid homecoming period.

"Always be careful when traveling back and forth. And for those who bring private vehicles, rest if you feel tired or sleepy. Take advantage of rest areas and rest facilities that have been prepared by officers," said Puan.
