JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has granted permits for electric vehicles to be transported by ship, but with all the provisions.

This permit was granted in line with the increasing demand for distribution and transportation of electric vehicles using ferry transportation.

The rules regarding electric vehicles using ferry transportation are contained in Circular Number SE-DRJD 7 of 2024 concerning Procedures for Strengthening Battery-Based Electric Vehicles on the Crossing Transport Ship during the Eid Transport Period of 2024/1445 H.

Director of River, Lake and Crossing Transportation, Lilik Handoyo said that this regulation aims to ensure that the transportation of electric vehicles by ferry can be carried out safely, smoothly, in an orderly and orderly manner.

With the procedures for regulating the loading of electric vehicles on ships, Lilik continued, so that risks can be prevented, especially during the Eid transportation period by increasing the volume of vehicles.

"This Circular applies to cargo transport vehicles in the form of electric motorized vehicles and the transportation of electric vehicles on ferry boats at crossings which are under the authority of the Directorate General of Land Transportation," he said in Jakarta, Friday, April 5.

Lilik said in the letter it was stated that electric vehicles were collected in an area marked specifically by ship owners or ship operators, making it easy to monitor.

Then the area is placed with a distance of at least three meters from the engine room if the room is not covered with A-60 fire shield. If the engine room is covered with A-60 fire shield, it can be placed above the engine room.

In addition, electric vehicles must also be collected in areas that do not hinder access to safety equipment, fire matching equipment, do not block evacuation routes and areas must be equipped with sufficient ventilation, "explained Lilik.

Furthermore, Lilik said the electric vehicles to be loaded must be reported to the port operator and recorded in the manifest, and the loading must meet the stability and load line provisions.

"Later, during the cruise, the crew must patrol the area with special markers and monitoring of the loading will be carried out directly by the harbormaster," he said.

It Cannot Be Done In The 2024 Eid Homecoming

In addition, Lilik said that the transportation of certain vehicles by driving electric motorbikes such as electric scooters, electric bicycles,hoverboards, one-wheeled bicycles, and autopets on ferry boats should not be carried out during the Eid 2024/1445 Hijri transportation period.

Lilik said this circular was valid from April 4th and at any time improvements could be made properly.

He hopes that with this regulation, all crossing transportation operations can run safely and safely and the community can carry out their homecoming full of joy.

"Don't forget to remind that the problem of transporting electric vehicles is a shared responsibility by always meeting the requirements when loading on ships and the requirements on electric vehicles themselves," he concluded.
