JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) added 2,000 flights or extra flares to airlines at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, during the Eid Al-Fitr 1445 Hijri/2024 AD homecoming period.

"We want to give operators the opportunity if there are now an additional 2,000 flights (extra fligt). We still provide operators with the opportunity to increase the number of fligts," said Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi in Tangerang, quoted from Antara, Saturday, March 30.

According to him, the routine and productivity of flight rotation will be coordinated with Angkasa Pura and AirNav to provide space for time at airports that are more than the previous number.

"It can be until 08.00 or 12.00 WIB and also airports managed by the Ministry of Transportation will do so. AP from Airnav employs or provides availability," he said.

The Ministry of Transportation predicts an increase in the number of travelers in the moment of Eid al-Fitr in 2024 to reach 193 million passengers.

In fact, he said, the increase could reach 50 percent when compared to the previous year.

"From the 50 percent increase, there are around 193 million travelers this year. It has increased rapidly from the number of travelers last year which amounted to 120 million," he said.

As for overcoming the surge in passengers. His party ordered airport officials in the drop-off area to be added to avoid long queues.

In addition, most of the current check-in counters will be used only as a place to put baggage.

He also said that overall all flight procedures were safely under control and airport facilities were functioning optimally.

"Judging from a fact on the ground, from the ticket booking that occurred, and this is based on a survey that this ticket booking occurs on Eid al-Fitr 2024", he said.

Therefore, his party advised Angkasa Pura II as the main manager of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to add flight schedules to provide optimal service for travelers this year.

"But we want to give the opportunity that now there is an extra flight. We will give the opportunity to provide that number of flights with rotation productivity," he said.
