JAKARTA - Young people or Generation Z are expected to have a big role in controlling inflation considering that they have strong purchasing power.

"Generation Z is now the backbone or backbone to boost Jakarta's economy," said Member of Commission C of the DKI Jakarta DPRD Esti Arimi Putri quoting Antara.

Esti said the number of generation Z in Jakarta is currently seven million people or 25.65 percent of the total population of the capital city. This figure cannot be underestimated in driving the wheels of the Jakarta economy.

Moreover, Generation Z continues to create a new culture in economic activities, especially those related to modernization and digital.

Esti also encouraged the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) to carry out comprehensive digital reform starting from education for Generation Z.

"Generation Z is definitely shopping on Tik Tok, at Shopee and so on, well that's also what must be considered how this digital reform opportunity is also included," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Economic and Finance Bureau of the DKI Jakarta Regional Secretariat, Mochamad Abbas, said that one of the revenues that DKI Jakarta relies on is taxes.

Thus, in the future it is necessary to think about implementing the Special Jakarta Regional Law (DKJ) in an effort to optimize tax revenues.

Later, there will be adjustments related to taxation in Jakarta after it is no longer the capital city, including in terms of digital reform.

"I am sure that whatever policies will be taken later, they will also pay attention to people's purchasing power, also pay attention to the needs of local governments related to their Regional Original Revenue," said Abbas.

For this reason, his party will also invite a number of related parties such as companies providing applications and entrepreneurs targeted by Generation Z to continue to help control prices in order to suppress inflation.

"It does not rule out the possibility of paying attention to the parties who are investors or entrepreneurs who have done their business in this city of Jakarta," he added.
