The Special Staff Of The Minister Of PUPR Explained That There Are Two Countries That Successfully Manage Water

JAKARTA - Special Staff to the Minister of PUPR for Water Resources Firdaus Ali said, there are two countries that have successfully managed water. The first is China which has succeeded in building water management.

"China is a country with a population burden of 1.5 billion, but China is a country that has succeeded in building their water management. So, yes, we see that China's progress and welfare is less because they build water management," Firdaus said at the Road to 10th World Water Forum Press Conference: "Preparation of Good Success in Organizing" online, Thursday, March 28.

Firdaus said that currently China already has the largest dam in the world known as the Three Gorges Dam, which is the country's seriousness in dealing with water issues.

"For example, they built the largest dam on the planet that we know of the Three Gorges Dam. One dam generates 22,500 Megawatts (MW) of electricity, only one dam," he said.

In addition, the Three Gorges Dam also functions for navigation shipping, transportation, logistics and so on. "And China is building the largest water canal on the planet that will bring water from the south to the north," said Firdaus.

To maintain good water management, said Firdaus, China even has one special ministry to supervise. "China also has a special water resource ministry that focuses on water," he said.

In addition, Firdaus said, South Korea is also a country that has good water management as well. Because, he said, the country is very intense in presenting good water technology.

"South Korea is very aggressive in developing good water management and providing good technology. In fact, in South Korea, he has a national company that focuses on water management," he said.

Thus, continued Firdaus, through the implementation of the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in Bali on May 18-25, 2024, it has been agreed that water is a common issue that must be resolved.

"What is clear is that we agree that the issue of water is a common issue, the issue of water is an issue that has been cross-border and cross-border that we have to solve. So, we must reduce the conflict. Stay away from problems and disasters, we present welfare for joint efforts," he added.
