Minister Of Manpower Ida Calls Only 11 Percent Of Informal Workers Registered By BPJS Ketenagakerjaan

JAKARTA - The Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Ida Fauziyah revealed that the participation in employment social security for non-wage workers (BPU) has only reached 11 percent of the total informal workers.

For your information, BPU BPJS Ketenagakerjaan participants are entrepreneurs in the informal sector, such as street vendors.

"The scope of BPU participants, if we look at the data, is still low, the participant coverage is 11 percent of the total informal sector workers," he said in a working meeting with Commission IX of the DPR, written Wednesday, March 27.

Even so, Ida said that the growth of BPJS Employment participants for BPU workers was quite fast in the last five years.

Based on data presented by Ida, the total BPJS Employment participants were 9.19 million people in 2023. This figure increased from the position of 6 million in 2022.

"The increase in BPU worker participants in the last two years has been very significant, it amounts to more than 50 percent every year," explained Ida.

In more detail, Ida said that BPJS Employment participants who participated in the Old Age Security (JHT) program were only 6.88 percent of the total BPU membership. Where only 632,794 workers were recorded last year.
