JAKARTA - The Bank Indonesia (BI) Representative Office of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) has prepared IDR 5.5 trillion to meet the needs of community rupiah during Ramadan and Eid 2024.

Head of BI DIY Ibrahim during the "Kick Off Serak Rupiah Ramadan and Berkah Idulfitri (Serambi) 2024" in Yogyakarta, Wednesday, March 20, said that the Rp5.5 trillion prepared consisted of bank withdrawals or "outflows" from BI amounting to Rp4.5 trillion and Interbank Currency Transactions (TUKAB) of Rp1 trillion.

"The amount of cartal money increased by 5.8 percent compared to last year's IDR 5.2 trillion," he said, quoted by Antara.

According to Ibrahim, the increase in the amount of cartal money prepared was in line with economic growth and the potential increase in tourist visits during the Eid al-Fitr 2024 holiday in DIY.

"This is a form of anticipation of the need for money from the DIY community because the moment of National Religious Holidays (HBKN) and foreign and domestic tourists is increasing," he said.

To ensure the availability of sufficient rupiah, quality, and proper distribution, he said, BI DIY prepared the distribution of money when entering the month of Ramadan, as well as carrying out mobile cash activities so as to reach the wider community.

"We urge the public to exchange rupiah currency in an official place to ensure the authenticity and quality of rupiah currency," he said.

To expand the reach of rupiah currency services to the community, BI is collaborating with a number of banks in DIY to open exchange services through banking counters and joint mobile cash services spread across various points.

In Ramadan 2024, said Ibrahim, the exchange occupancy points consisted of BI Mobile Cash at five points, mobile cash along with six points, and 37 banks along with branch offices.

"With the Serambi Program, we want to massively socialize it to the public to exchange money in official places. Apart from getting the authenticity of the money, the amount is also as we exchanged," he said.

In addition to preparing mobile cash services, Ibrahim ensured that his party had ordered all banks to continue to ensure the availability of cash at every automated cash machine or ATM.

"So people don't worry about the availability of money for Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr this year is as safe as in previous years," said Ibrahim.
