Ministry Of Transportation Predicts 4.44 Million People Will Go Home For Eid 2024 By Air

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) through the Directorate General of Air Transportation estimates that the number of aircraft passengers in the Eid 2024 period will reach 4.44 million people.

The Director General of Civil Aviation, Maria Kristi Endah Murni, said that the number of airplane passengers during the Lebaran 2024 homecoming period experienced an increase of 12 percent compared to 2023.

Kristi explained that when compared to the Lebaran 2019 period, passenger movements through aircraft transportation modes during the Eid al-Fitr period this year experienced an increase of 1 percent.

"So what we projected in total was estimated at 4.44 million, up 12 percent from 2023 or up 1 percent in 2019," he said in a virtual press conference, Sunday, March 17.

The details, continued Kristi, the movement of domestic passengers during the Eid 2024 period reached 3.6 million people.

"With a daily average of 224,650, it is up 9 percent compared to last year. Compared to 2019, it has increased by 1 percent," he explained.

Meanwhile, Kristi continued, international passengers during the Lebaran 2024 homecoming period are estimated to increase by 26 percent compared to last year.

"Then compared to 2019 the number increased by 2 percent," he said.

Kristi also explained that there were several routes that were reactivated, which during the COVID-19 pandemic were closed. Several airlines also opened new routes at several points.

"Seat capacity projections are available total domestic, international and also pioneering 6.7 million seats. Then, for the total number of aircraft 420 (units)," he said.
