JAKARTA - Director General of Oil and Gas (Migas) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Tutuka Ariadji responded to the proposal of members of Commission VII DPR RI regarding the revision of the Indonesian oil lifting target which was set at 1 million barrels by 2030.

Tutuka said that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources actually still has high hopes for the enhanced oil recovery (EOR) project and non-conventional oil and gas exploration (MNK) in the Rokan Block. He said that until now his party was still waiting for the results of the development of the two projects.

If successful, Tutuka ensured that the two projects would make a major contribution to the realization of Indonesian oil lifting.

"If we especially have high hopes in MNK and EOR. If that is successful, I think both of them will contribute greatly to oil production. This is from the perspective of the Director General of Oil and Gas," said Tutuka to the media quoted on Saturday, March 16.

Tutuka said that the success of these two projects is still waiting for the results of drilling two wells in the Rokan Block, namely Gulami Well and Kelok Well, which will only be known in the next two months.

"Of course, MNK depends on what is being done in Rokan, which is currently only being drilled at Gulamo Well and Kelok Well. If the results are good, maybe 2 months there will be more detailed information about that," continued Tutuka.

Tutuka further said that if the lifting target of 1 million barrels of oil per day can only be achieved if the Cooperation Contract Contractor (KKKS) finds a new oil field. Moreover, he said, currently the KKKS is only holding back the decline that occurs in drilling wells.

Tutuka said, currently the KKKS finds the most gas fields so that the lifting target is increasingly difficult to achieve.

"If there are no new discoveries, they cannot go up. So there must be new discoveries, new fields, especially oil," concluded Tutuka.
