JAKARTA - The National Food Agency (Bapanas) revealed that the government will prepare reserves for 12 staple food commodities to face Ramadan until Eid Al-Fitr 2024. The goal is to ensure supply adequacy.

The 12 staple food commodities include rice, corn, soybeans, shallots, garlic, large chilies, cayenne pepper, beef/cash, broiler meat, broiler eggs, sugar, and cooking oil.

Director of Food Distribution and Reserves, Bapanas Rachmi Widiriani, said that the government's 12 commodities of food reserves will be released intensively ahead of Ramadan until Eid.

"The goal is that in the market, in the food market there is enough and people can easily get it," explained Rachmi in a discussion entitled, "Preparation for Ramadan, Condition of Price of Basic Materials" in Jakarta, Monday, March 4.

This step, continued Rachmi, is in accordance with the results of the National Religious Holiday Coordination Meeting (HBKN) for Fasting and Eid Al-Fitr 1445 Hijri which was held today.

"One of the things that was decided at the Coordination Meeting this morning was to intensify all provinces and regencies/cities to carry out the cheap food movement (GPM) and it was indeed coordinated from Badanas," he said.

With the GPM program, Rachmi hopes that people can buy cheap food. So that people only follow the activity update where this program will be held.

Furthermore, Rachmi said that the price of food at GPM will be controlled by the government because it has involved some food reserves from partners, associations, SOEs, and the Association of Farmers Groups (Gapoktan).

"So the price must be more affordable to make it easier for people to get food, especially these 12 during HBKN," he concluded.
