Drill 7 New Wells In Banyu Urip, ExxonMobil Pede Oil Production Can Overtake Rokan Block

JAKARTA - ExxonMobil Cepu Limited (EMCL) is trying to increase oil production in the Cepu Block by drilling 7 new oil wells in Banyu Urip Field.

For information, of the seven wells that will be drilled this year, five of them are carbonate wells while the rest are plastic wells. The drilling of these 7 wells will be carried out throughout this year with the start of production projected in June 2024.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif revealed that with this new well drilling, EMCL is optimistic that it will again be ranked first as the highest oil field in Indonesia currently occupied by the Rokan Block. Just so you know, the Rokan Block is managed by Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR).

"They (EMCL) are optimistic. Optimistic to be able to produce, Exxonmobil is the F1 sponsor, so we ask him to be like Hamilton (fast), so we ask for it to be fast," said Aifin to the media crew in Bojonegoro, quoted on Saturday, March 2.

Arifin said, currently the production of the Cepu Block oil is recorded at 142,000 BOPD. With the addition of the 7 new wells, he said, oil production is expected to increase by 20,000 to 30,000 BOPD.

"It can be up to 20-30 thousand barrels per day, the existing ones go down even though they are patched, but we hope to add more," continued Arifin.

Previously in his remarks on the Inauguration of Sumur Infill and Classic Hijacks in Block Cepu, EMCL President Director Carole J.Gall said this well tax would be EMCL's big contribution to realizing the target of lifting 1 million barrels of oil per day launched by the Indonesian government.

"This will make a big contribution and strengthen national energy resilience, an inspiration that we fully support," he said.

According to the planned drilling campaign, the drilling of 2 carbonate infill wells which will be implemented in 2024 is projected to start onstream in 2024 by doing tie-in to existing facilities. Subsequently, it is followed by drilling of 3 carbonate infill wells and 2 plastic wells in the span of time until 2025 and is expected to be on stream in 2026.Banyu Urip campaign drilling activities using bridges and equipment, all of which are made in Indonesia and operated by PT Pertamina Drilling Services Indonesia (PDSI) which is a subsidiary of PT Pertamina (Persero). This drilling shows the level of competence of PDSI in the field of oil and gas drilling, as well as support for the upstream oil and gas industry to grow national companies as well as the commitment of SKK Migas and KKKS in implementing the domestic component level (TKDN) in the upstream oil and gas industry.
