JAKARTA - Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Teten Masduki hopes that skin craft products such as Garut shoes, bags, and jackets can have international standard quality through the Joint Production House (RPB).

He conveyed that through the RPB of Skin Commodities which he had just inaugurated in Garut, West Java, on Saturday, February 17, he could help micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to compete with skin producers from Virenze, Italy.

"Because the skin mode qibla is in Italy, and we can imitate and lead there," he said in a written statement, quoted by Antara.

According to him, the production house facility is expected to become a center for the development of the skin ecosystem in Garut Regency, so that the quality of production can be famous abroad, and so that it can help MSME players advance to class.

"With the RPB, downstream products must be world-class," he said.

He admitted that although Garut's leather craft was more than 100 years old, or the same age as Italian skin crafts, quality, and brands were still far behind.

He considered this to be the case because MSMEs in Indonesia were still using makeshift equipment, making it difficult to catch up with skin producers in Italy.

"The way MSMEs are produced is still simple. With modern production tools in the RPB, it is hoped that MSME products will be of higher quality," said Minister Teten.

Teten said the RPB that he had just inaugurated had modern facilities that could help MSME players in skin commodities maximize their products, so they could be exported abroad.

He said the facilities that had been provided must be maintained as well as possible, both by the government and the community.

"We also have to maintain and continue to modernize tools because the industry continues to grow. So, the RPB will not experience aging, but will continue to grow," he said.
