SIG Distributes Food Packages For Victims Of The Grobogan And Demak Flash Floods

The flash floods that hit Grobogan Regency and Demak Regency, Central Java, have submerged tens of thousands of houses, dozens of educational facilities and places of worship, up to thousands of hectares of agricultural land. As a form of concern for the affected communities, PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) together with its subsidiary, PT Semen Gresik, distributed food packages and other basic necessities.

The food packages distributed include consumption materials in the form of 900 kg of rice, 220 liters of cooking oil, 102 boxes of instant noodles, 100 kg of sugar, 122 cans of sardines, 50 kg of eggs, 44 packs of biscuits, 140 boxes of mineral water, and 145 pcs of packaged UHT milk. Other basic needs that are also distributed include 2 tarpaulins, 100 blankets, 144 bath soaps, and 60 pcs of eucalyptus oil.

The aid was handed over to the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Grobogan Regency and Demak Regency in stages from Thursday 8 February to Sunday 11 February, to be distributed to all affected locations.

GIS Corporate Secretary, Vita Mahreyni expressed deep concern over the flash flood disaster in Grobogan and Demak and hoped that the disaster would not drag on so that people could return to normal daily activities. To ease the burden on the community in the midst of the emergency situation, GIS has distributed aid through the GIS Care program.

"SIG is also concerned about the flash flood disaster which has caused several things, ranging from health threats, clean water crises, and economic losses due to damage to houses and public facilities, to the paralysis of community activities. This assistance is a form of our concern which is expected to provide benefits for the people of Grobogan and Demak in meeting their daily needs," said Vita Mahreyni.

Head of the Emergency and Logistics Division of the Grobogan BPBD, Soewignyo, appreciated SIG and PT Semen Gresik for showing their concern for the community.

"We are very grateful for this assistance. Although it is not in the scope of Grobogan Regency, SIG is pleased to come all the way to provide assistance. Later the assistance will be distributed to a number of areas that are affected and in need," said Soewignyo.

Appreciation and gratitude were also conveyed by the Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of BPBD Demak, Suprapto.

"Alhamdulillah, on behalf of the BPBD and the Demak Regency Government, we would like to thank PT Semen Gresik for this assistance. Hopefully this assistance can ease the burden on the affected victims, and what has been delegated to us can be a more reward for the company so that it can be more advanced and beneficial for Indonesia," Suprapto said.

The floods that hit Demak and Grobogan Regencies took place from Monday, February 5 to causing seven sub-districts to be affected. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) in its official statement stated that this flash flood was triggered by high-intensity rain in the upstream area. The high water discharge caused ten embankments in the Demak Regency area to burst so that water overflowed to roads and residential areas in seven sub-districts.
