JAKARTA - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) cooperates with the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in the implementation of the 2024 National Literacy and Financial Inclusion Survey (SNLIK) which was held in all provinces from January to February 2024.

The cooperation between OJK and BPS in the implementation of SNLIK 2024 is expected to ensure that the preparation process, data collection, and calculation of survey results are more quality maintained and accuracy so that the index obtained can describe the current conditions of Indonesian literacy and financial inclusion.

The Chief Executive of the Behavior Supervisory of Financial, Education, and Protection Business Entrepreneurs of OJK Consumers, Friderica Widyasari Dewi, conveyed that the substance of the implementation of SNLIK carried out with BPS measures five things, namely knowledge, skills, beliefs, attitudes and behavior of the community towards financial service products and services.

"This is a mandate given to the OJK to provide literacy and education to the public. So from this survey we can see how the public understands financial service products and also how to go in the future," Friderica said in her official statement, Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

Furthermore, Friderica also appreciated the cooperation in the implementation of the survey in collaboration with BPS. So previously OJK had conducted surveys independently four times. However, this is something historical for us, because this is the first time the survey has been conducted in collaboration with BPS," he added.

Plt. Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said this was the first survey conducted by BPS in collaboration with OJK, because BPS certainly contributes to be able to independently measure how financial literacy is in Indonesia, because of course this financial literacy program is a national program.

"This is a collaboration between BPS and OJK and we hope that the use of data from SNLIK at the national level can be used to obtain an overview of the level of financial literacy and inclusion in Indonesia," said Amalia.

Amalia added that this survey was conducted with the aim of becoming an evaluation material for policy formulas regarding literacy conditions and public financial inclusion and how the financial literacy and inclusion program could be formulated in the future.

In the process, SNLIK's traveling aims to ensure that survey data collection is carried out properly and correctly by the Field Data Collection Officer (PPL). Witnessing is also carried out by all OJK Offices in each province to maintain the quality of the 2024 SNLIK data collection process.

The 2024 SNLIK data collection will be carried out from 17 January to 5 February 2024 in 34 provinces covering 120 regencies/cities, 8 KOJK areas, with 1,080 number of Census Blocks (BS).

Field data collection was carried out by 374 Field Data Collection Officers (PPL) and 120 Field Inspection Officers (PML) face-to-face using the Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) application. Each of the PPL in question is responsible for 2 to 3 BS areas accompanied by PML.

Previously, SNLIK was carried out every three years by the OJK, starting from 2013 and finally in 2022. This survey was conducted as a form of evaluation as well as mapping the literacy conditions and financial inclusion of the Indonesian people.

However, appointing Presidential Regulation Number 114 of 2020 concerning the National Strategy for Inclusive Finance (SNKI) is regulated regarding Indonesia's financial inclusion target which must reach 90 percent by 2024.

Meanwhile, this is the background of the OJK in 2024 to conduct a National Survey of Financial Literacy and Inclusion to find out the Indonesian people's financial literacy and inclusion index in 2023.

To achieve the target, OJK massively conducts education and financial literacy in collaboration with all stakeholders, such as banking, capital markets, insurance, pension funds, payments, and others.

In addition, OJK together with the Regional Government also compiled and implemented a financial inclusion program through the Regional Financial Access Acceleration Team (TPAKD). The entire series of programs aims to build Indonesian people who are literate, educated, and protected.
