AOC Welcomes Qatar Airways Operate Doha-Kualanamu Route

The Kualanamu International Airport Aviation Operator Committee (AOC) in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, welcomed the presence of the Qatar Airways airline that operates the Doha-Kualanamu route to go home.

"The positive impact is that there are more flights entering Kualanamu as airport managers hope, especially PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi," said AOC Chairman of Kualanamu International Airport Rahmat Iskandar as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, January 21.

His party said the Kualanamu International Airport manager wanted to make hubs or international flight collectors in ASEAN regional countries.

Later airports in Deli Serdang Regency will be in the same class as Changi International Airport in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur International Air Banda in Malaysia.

The Qatar Airways airline has started serving its inaugural direct flight with the Doha-Kualanamu route to go home at Kualanamu International Airport in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, Monday, January 15.

This foreign airline uses a wide-body Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft with flight numbers QR966 three times a week, namely Monday, Thursday and Saturday.

"This is one of the hubs, yes, and one of the hubs that will later be built to compete with the two airports in Singapore and Malaysia," he said.

Kualanamu International Airport in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, served 7.3 million passengers via Kualanamu during 2023 which increased by around 26 percent compared to 2022.

"So Kualanamu continues to invite wide-body planes, especially from South Asia and plans from India as well. Because some airlines fly to Kualanamu, but they are still 'wait and see'," said Rahmat.

Acting Governor of North Sumatra Hasssanudin this week said direct flights on the Doha-Kualanamu route to go home could improve the economy of this region.

"Good, this flight route will improve our economy," said Hassanudin.

With direct flights to Doha, he said, it proves that North Sumatra Province is progressing, so that it can further improve the community's economy.

"We are getting better, this proves that we are progressing," said Hassanudin.
