Minister Of Transportation Says Accident Rate Drops 12 Percent During Christmas And New Year Holidays

Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi said that the number of accidents during the 2023 Christmas and 2024 New Year (Nataru) holiday periods decreased compared to the previous year. It was recorded that the number of traffic accidents was 3,412 incidents.

Furthermore, Budi said that the number had decreased by about 12 percent compared to the previous year which was recorded as many as 3,865 incidents.

"This is also an indicator of the success of Nataru's transportation. I thank the National Police for overseeing the intensive movements of these vehicles," he said in a working meeting with Commission V of the DPR, at the DPR RI Building, Thursday, January 18.

The decline in the number of accidents, continued Budi, also decreased due to the existence of a free homecoming program which was targeted during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Furthermore, Budi said that during the Nataru holiday, the Ministry of Transportation also provided free homecoming. This program gets high enthusiasm from the community.

"This is a note for us during the Lebaran homecoming, we urge not only ministries, but also operators and corporations to provide this facility (free homecoming) at least to their employees," he said.

On the other hand, Budi also mentioned the number of people moving during the Nataru holiday period. He said, there were 126 million people who made movements.

Budi said, this figure is not much different from the predictions issued by the Transportation Policy Agency of the Ministry of Transportation.

There are 126 million movements of people outside the province and within the province. This means that the prediction made by the Transportation Policy Agency of the Ministry of Transportation does not miss this number. As well as the BKT prediction of the Ministry of Transportation reaches 107 million people," he said.
