JAKARTA - The manufacturing industry remains the aggressive in terms of exports. The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) noted that Indonesia's manufacturing sector exports exceeded 186.98 billion US dollars or contributed 72.24 percent of the total national export value of 258.82 billion US dollars.

The realization of manufacturing industry exports throughout 2023 exceeded the previously projected target of around USD 186.40 billion.

Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said, in the midst of unstable world conditions, the Indonesian industry remains aggressive in expanding its export market.

"This indicates that our manufacturing product has been competitive so that it is recognized by the world. For 2024, we are targeting USD193.4 billion US dollars. We are optimistic that it can be achieved," said Minister of Industry Agus in a written statement received by VOI, Thursday, January 18.

Agus said, there are several sectors that contribute the most, namely the basic metal industry, the food industry, the chemical and goods industry, the motor vehicle industry, trailers and semi-trials, the computer industry, electronic and optical goods, as well as the paper and paper goods industry.

Agus assessed that the advanced export performance certainly played a major role in the formation of the trade balance of the manufacturing industry into a surplus of 17.39 billion US dollars.

"This means continuing the surplus achievement in 2022," he said.

According to him, this positive trend strengthens the national manufacturing industry as the backbone of the national economy.

"The government is really focused and pays more attention to reviving the performance of the manufacturing industry, by strengthening the synergy between relevant stakeholders in implementing various strategic policies," said Agus.

As for January-December 2023, the export market share of Indonesia's processing industry is still concentrated in China with a share of 23.60 percent, followed by the United States (12.25 percent) and India (6.33 percent).
