The Ministry Of Industry Appreciates The Steel Export GRP To Canada, Its Value Reaches Two Million US Dollars

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) appreciates the commitment of PT Gunung Raja Paksi Tbk (GRP/GGRP) which has penetrated the export market.

In early 2024, the company released structure steel exports to Canada.

This shows that the quality of domestic steel products has been recognized by the world's arena so that it can penetrate the international market.

This means that the Indonesian steel industry already has very high competitiveness compared to similar products from other countries.

"So, local steel products can meet the needs of the domestic market and can compete globally," said Expert Staff for Climate Business and Investment at the Ministry of Industry Doddy Rahadi in a written statement received by VOI, Tuesday, January 16.

GRP's steel exports in early 2024 reached 1,500 metric tons (MT) to Canada, with a value of around 2 million US dollars. In March 2022, the GRP exported 700 MT of steel structure or 1 million US dollars to Arizona, United States.

Earlier in September 2020, the GRP also exported the structure of steel to Vancouver, Canada, amounting to 4,600 tons worth 4.7 million US dollars.

In fact, at that time the Covid-19 pandemic occurred.

Doddy assessed that GRP's efforts are also a reflection that the national manufacturing industry is increasingly confident in expanding its export market in the global arena.

This is supported by the quality of local products that are increasingly competitive and demand for the export market continues to increase, thus encouraging the optimization of company productivity.

"One of the manufacturing sub-sectors that has brilliant performance amid the global economic slowdown is the basic metal industry. Moreover, the basic metal industry is known as the mother of industry, which has played an important role in spurring national economic growth," he said.

The government, he continued, supports the transformation of the national steel industry into a green industry. "We appreciate the GRP's commitment to support decarbonization through the launch of Net Zero Roadmap, in accordance with our target to achieve the NZE target by 2050 in the industrial sector," he said.

On the same occasion, the President Director of GRP Fedaus said the structural steel products exported by GRP earlier this year were to support the construction of theION Bridge project in Canada.

"With the Weather Resistance Grade, this product contains additional nickel for corrosion resistance, making it an ideal choice for bridge construction in extreme weather," he explained.

Through the export of structural steel, continued Fedaus, GRP strives to create new achievements and strengthen Indonesia's position on the global stage.

"Our commitment is not only to improving the quality of steel products, but also to our role in supporting infrastructure development on an international scale," he said.

According to him, the GRP's contribution to strengthening the iron and steel industry in Indonesia is not only about export figures, but also related to creating a positive impact on national economic growth.
