Regarding The Discourse On The Increase In KRL Tariffs, This Is The Explanation Of KCI Boss

JAKARTA - President Director of PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) Asdo Artriviyanto opened up about the discourse on increasing the tariff of the electric train (KRL). He said, currently his party is in a position to wait for policies from regulators.

For your information, the discourse on increasing the KRL rate has been rolling since the end of 2022. Where, the Ministry of Transportation at that time revealed that there was a possibility of an increase in KRL rates that occurred in 2023. However, until the end of 2023 the discourse on increasing the KRL rate did not take place.

Asdo said that his party did not apply for an increase in KRL rates. According to him, the increase in tariffs is the authority of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub).

The reason, continued Asdo, is that the KRL Commuter Line service is a public service obligation or PSO assignment service. Therefore, KCI only carries out the assignment.

"It's still at the regulatory level, we only run the operator. In terms of systems we join the regulator, because we are PSO. If the government sets our tariff policy, IT will prepare it and we are ready to do that," he said at a press conference, at the KCI Office, Jakarta, Thursday, January 11.

Furthermore, Asdo also said that the KRL Commuter Line tariff component was calculated directly by the Ministry of Transportation.

"We are assigned that this operation means that we are all borne by the government for operating costs. So this KCI operates government trains through assignments," he explained.

"So the financing is the operating costs of all, both fuel and infrastructure care including the payment of the crew, plus the 10 percent margin is the PSO system," he continued.

According to Asdo, his party will accept it only because it all depends on the Ministry of Transportation. However, he said, the KRL rate itself has not increased since 2016.

"Our last increase was in 2016. Now there has been no increase. So we're not worried about going up, we just go up, after all, it depends on our government, it's an assignment," he said.
