Coordinating Ministry For Maritime Affairs And Fisheries: Four Countries Confirmed To Attend The 10th WWF Event In Bali

JAKARTA - Deputy for Coordination of Environmental and Forestry Management at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs, Nani Hendiarti, said that there were four countries that stated their commitment to attend the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in Bali, on May 18-24, 2024.

Deputy Nani said that some of these countries had participated in the previous 'road to' WWF event. So, already aware of the implementation of this international activity.

"Some (states) have conveyed their commitment to attend, some have been conveyed directly to the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries as well as possible to the president, yes. Well, we are very close to countries that organize international activities before entering this WWF, such as China, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Japan, South Korea, it has conveyed (a commitment to attendance)," Nani said in an online press conference entitled "Water Security and Prosperity" on Tuesday, January 9.

"Because this is a series of events, so before WWF there was a 'road to'. Well, we also took a special and active approach in their events so that they would also try (attend), but for confirmation we are still in the process," he continued.

Nani said, based on the results of a government meeting that had been held in the fourth week of December 2023, it had been decided that only 32 heads of state would be invited from the original 33 heads of state.

"We still haven't discussed the invitation to the head of state, maybe in the near future. Because we were just meeting around the fourth week of December 2023 and decided that 32 heads of state were invited," he said.

He added that there are three main criteria that are considered by the Government of Indonesia to invite a number of countries to attend the 10th WWF event.

First, namely countries that have cooperation in the water sector with Indonesia. This criterion is said to be a priority.

Second, are countries that often raise water issues in international forums. Third, are countries that have strategic diplomatic relations with Indonesia.

"So, we only invited 32 heads of state. Hopefully, the invitation can be submitted immediately," he said.

Furthermore, said Nani, the development of information regarding the number of heads of state who will definitely attend will be delivered in the future. "Maybe the next update will be in the next two weeks or a month," he added.
