Ahead Of The Session Period, Commission VII Will Summon ITSS And The Ministry Of Industry Regarding The Smelter That Exploded In Morowali

JAKARTA - Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives will immediately summon PT Indonesia Tsingshan Stainless Steel (ITSS) and the Ministry of Industry to provide an explanation regarding the cause of the smelter furnace explosion that occurred in the PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) area, Morowali, Central Sulawesi.

"We will enter the trial period on January 16 and a summons will be scheduled. We will accompany smelters including the Ministry of Industry to provide an explanation," said Deputy Chairman of Commission VII Eddy Soeparno who was met after the agenda of Measuring the Future of Fair Energy in the Nickel-Based Industry Area in Jakarta, Tuesday 9 January.

He also admitted that there were indeed technical problems considering the large number of members of Commission VII who are currently still in their respective constituencies considering that they had met the campaign period ahead of the general election. However, Nia ensured that summons and trials would still be held.

"But that doesn't mean it won't handle this because from the start it has been conveyed that there will be a summons for an explanation regarding this matter," he added.

Furthermore, Eddy said this explanation was needed in order to evaluate the work safety system in other smelters so that similar incidents do not happen again in the future.

According to him, it is necessary to evaluate all smelters in Indonesia regarding Work Health and Safety (K3). Eddy asked for the results of the audit to be published so that the smelter safety standards can be improved and improved.

"For the time being, for companies that underwent a disaster yesterday, the operation should be stopped until the results of the investigation by law enforcement officers and the results of the audit have come out. Of course, we ask that there be transparency from the company to convey the background and sequence of events until the incident," concluded Eddy.
