Facing Anti-Dumping Accusations In The US, Here's The Stategi Prepared By The KKP

JAKARTA - The American Shrimp Processors Association (ASPA) through a petition on October 25, 2023, has accused Indonesia of anti-dumping and countervaliding Indonesian frozen shrimp exports to the United States (US) market.

Responding to this, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has prepared a number of strategic steps to deal with these allegations.

Meanwhile, the coverage of shrimp from Indonesia that is subject to a petition includes all frozen tropical shrimp, excluding fresh shrimp and spreaded shrimp or bread flour-coated shrimp.

"We have prepared the handling of AD (antidumping) and CVD (countervaliding duties) cases, especially in the preparation of explanations for policies or programs accused of subsidies, especially in the fisheries sector, such as facilitation of financing for the fisheries sector, and insurance for small-scale cultivators," said Director General of Strengthening Competitiveness for Marine and Fishery Products (PDSPKP) KKP Budi Sulistiyo in Jakarta, reported by ANTARA, Saturday, January 6.

Currently, KKP is focusing on completing CVD questionnaire filling as a step to explain subsidized programs with data support, and ensure that programs in the fisheries sector are not discriminatory or non-discriminatory for shrimp.

In addition, the KKP provides assistance to mandatory exporters who respond to filling out CVD questionnaires, and has also appointed lawyers to represent the Indonesian government in resolving the case.

He said the KKP as the minister of shrimp commodity development carefully carried out the selection of international lawyers representing the Republic of Indonesia in handling this case.

Budi explained that the KKP also accompanied the exporter of mandatory respondents to AD and CVD along with lawyers appointed by the government and appointed by each exporter in the context of filling out a questionnaire from the US Department of Commerce (USDOC).

The accusations of CVD are not only aimed at Indonesia, but also Vietnam, Ecuador, and India, while AD's accusations are aimed at Indonesia and Ecuador.
