Pertamina NRE Records 18 Percent Increased Clean Electricity Production

JAKARTA - Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) managed to record operational performance, including from the production of clean energy-based electricity generation, which is 5.5 million MWh (unaudited). This figure increased compared to last year in the same period, namely 4.7 million MWh, or an increase of 18 percent.

Pertamina NRE Corporate Secretary Dicky Septriadi said, one of Pertamina NRE's businesses is the power generation sourced from clean energy, including geothermal, solar power, biogas, and steam gas. From the geothermal power plant (PLTP) operated by its subsidiary, PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy, Tbk (PGE), the production of electricity produced until the end of 2023 reached 4.7 million MWh (unaudited), an increase of 2 percent compared to previous electricity production in the same period.

"Meanwhile, production from renewable energy-based power plants, such as solar power plants (PLTS) and biogas power plants (PLTBg) total 47 thousand MWh (unaudited) or an increase of 59 percent from the previous year in the same period," said Dicky in his statement to the media, Friday, January 5.

In addition, one of the achievements of Pertamina NRE is the operation of the Java-1 unit 2 steam gas power plant (PLTGU) with a capacity of 880 MW in December 2023. With the operation of the power plant, there is an additional production of 751 thousand MWh of Electricity. Not only that, good news also came from Rokan with the operation of PLTS with a capacity of 25.7 MWp in the working area of Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) and PLTS with a capacity of 2.25 MWp in the Pertamina Plaju Refinery area.

"Thank God, at the end of 2023 we have successfully operated large-scale clean energy projects such as PLTS Rokan 25.7 MWp, PLTS Plaju Refinery 2.25 MWp, and PLTGU Java-1 Unit 2 with a capacity of 880 MWp. Not stopping there, we are finalizing a series of final stage processes for several projects that are ready to operate in 2024, such as PLTS Kilang Balongan, PLTS Kilang Dumai, PLTS Kilang Cilacap, PLTS in Pertamina Marketing facilities, and of course PLTGU Java-1 Unit 1. All we are optimizing for the creation of a clean energy ecosystem in Indonesia," explained Dicky.

Then throughout 2023, Pertamina NRE succeeded in carrying out various strategic cooperations in the green industry, including; commercial cooperation with Perhutani in Project Nature and Ecosystem Based Solutions (NEBS) for the Semaru concession, cooperation in the development of green hydrogen and green ammonia, cooperation in the electric vehicle trial project with Pertamina Patra Niaga (VAT) and Honda, as well as the listing of PT PGE Tbk on the stock exchange with the issuer code PGEO on February 25, 2023.

PT PGE Tbk also won the Way Ratai geothermal work area management project in collaboration with Chevron, followed by the implementation of the GroundBreaking PLTP Lumut Balai unit 2 with a capacity of 55 MW in Kab. Muara Enim, South Sumatra. Not only that, another proud news is the success of Pertamina NRE as the first carbon credit seller at the launch of the carbon exchange (IDXCarbon) which was inaugurated by Indonesian President Joko Widodo on September 26, 2023.

Apart from the operational achievement side, Pertamina NRE has also succeeded in obtaining several international and national representation awards. Pertamina NRE's strategic role and contribution as the front line of the energy transition are increasingly recognized," explained Dicky.
