The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) said it had launched an electronic-based surveillance and control system (wasdal).

This is an effort to mitigate the occurrence of another incident at PT Indonesia Tsingshan Stainless Steel (ITSS) in Morowali, Central Sulawesi.

The Director General of Resilience, Region, and International Industrial Access (KPAII) of the Ministry of Industry Eko S. A. Cahyanto said that the presence of electronic wasdal could make it easier for his party to identify and monitor industrial or corporate compliance with investment regulations, one of which is the implementation point of Health and Work Safety (K3).

"So, starting in early 2024, we will identify all sectors that are categorized as required to report, including later involving local governments, for industries that we see must be fully monitored in the aspect of the regulations later," said Eko in a year-end media meeting monitored online, Thursday, December 28.

Eko hopes that the new system will be able to become an effort to prevent the smelter case in Morowali from happening again.

On the same occasion, the Head of the Standardization and Industrial Services Policy Agency (BSKJI) of the Ministry of Industry Andi Rizaldi said that this commitment was one of the mitigation steps so that the case of the smelter furnace explosion that occurred at PT Indonesia Tsingshan Stainless Steel (ITSS) Morowali would not happen again.

"Since the incident occurred, at the direction of the Minister of Industry (Agus Gumiwang), we have committed a concern to maintain and monitor K3 in all industries and not only the smelter industry," said Andi.

The Ministry of Industry continues to coordinate intensely with the Central Sulawesi Regional Police Forensic Laboratory Center (Puslabfor) regarding the investigation into the work accident.

The Ministry of Industry also continues to monitor the results of the crime scene (TKP) conducted by Puslabfor.

"Maybe later after the results of the investigation, the Ministry of Industry will give a release with the Central Sulawesi Regional Police," he said.
