The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has completed the replacement/dupplication of 9 old bridges in the national road network system and the main logistics line in East Java Province.

This is done to increase connectivity during the momentum of the 2023 Christmas and 2024 New Year holidays.

"Connections between areas need to be maintained and even improved, one of which is by replacing old bridges so that the flow of goods, services, and human beings can be smoother and more efficient. With good connectivity, it is hoped that regional economic growth will also increase," said PUPR Ministry Spokesperson Endra S Atmawidjaja in a written statement received by VOI, Tuesday, December 19.

Endra said that the construction and maintenance of roads and bridges had an important role as the backbone or the regional economic backbone.

"We have to make sure the condition of roads and bridges are steady for connectivity between regions and facilitate logistics distribution in Indonesia," he said.

He added, with the completion of the replacement or duplication of the Callender Hamilton Bridge, it can also improve road transportation services, especially in supporting smoothness and convenience of traffic flow during the 2023 Christmas and 2024 New Year (Nataru) holidays in East Java, including access to tourist attractions and family holidays.

The replacement/duplicate of the Callender Hamilton Bridge in East Java is one of the Government's Cooperation with Business Entity (PPP) projects between the Directorate General of Highways of the Ministry of PUPR and PT Baja Titian Utama as the Implementing Business Entity and PT Penjaminan Infrastruktur Indonesia (Persero) as guarantor with the implementation period 2021-2023.

Especially in East Java Province, the replacement of 9 bridges with a total handling of 2,116 meters (m) worth IDR 582 billion has been carried out.

The KPBU scheme in question is in the form of service availability with a concession period of 12 years.

The nine bridges in East Java that have been replaced are the 35-m long Wirolegi Bridge in Jember Regency which connects Jember and Banyuwangi Regencies. Then, the 170-m long Trisula Lama Bridge connecting Blitar City and Tulungagung Regency.

Next, two bridges in Pacitan Regency with a total handling of 614 m, namely the 60 m long Teleng Bridge on Tompak Rinjing Highway and the 80 m long Kakung Bridge on Jalan Raya Pacitan-Trenggalek. Then, the 55 m Manjungan Bridge which is located in Pogalan District, Trenggalek Regency.

Meanwhile, the other four bridges are the 150-m long Ngujang Bridge in Tulungagung Regency, the 142-m Bandar Ngalim Bridge in Kediri City, the 50-m long Jembang in Bojonegoro Regency, and the 50-m Kalitakir Bridge in Banyuwangi Regency.

It is known that the replacement/duplicate of the CH bridge is in the form of the Steel Box Girder bridge, Steel I Girder along with complementary buildings (including Structure Health Monitoring System/SHMS) as well as operations and maintenance during the service period.

The Callender Hamilton Bridge in East Java is also economically designed, resulting in a relatively small dimension of the stem frame when compared to other types of steel frame bridges.
