KKP Says Lobster Fry Export Rules Are Still Being Discussed, Here's The Explanation

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) said that the rules regarding the export of clear lobster seeds or fry are still being discussed today.

Director General (Dirjen) of Fisheries and Cultivation of KKP Tb Haeru Rahayu said that currently the regulation is in the stage of public consultation.

"The ministerial regulations are being discussed, there have been public consultations in three places, namely Sukabumi, Banten, and in Lombok," he said after being met at the National Fishery Development Meeting of Blue Economy-Based Cultivation at The Ritz Carlton Pacific Place, Jakarta, Monday, December 18.

The Director-General, who is often called TB, said that when the stage of public consultation has been completed, it will be returned to the KKP for later agreement.

"We, right, have already consulted the public, then returned it to us, discussed it again. After that, there will be harmonization with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights," he said.

On the same occasion, the Marketing Director of the Directorate of Strengthening Competitiveness for Marine and Fishery Products (PDSKP) KKP Erwin Dwiyana revealed about the regulation which has not yet been completed.

Erwin assessed that the main obstacle found to finalizing the regulation was the regulation scheme that would manage or regulate the export. So, it is still under discussion until now.

"Actually, legalizing it must have rules so that those exported are legal and recorded, the point is that," he said.

According to him, the regulation will continue until next year. "The discussion is still being carried out until now and could be rolled out to next year," he added.

For your information, the ban on BBL exports is stated in the Regulation of the Minister of Maritime Affairs Regulation (Permen) of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Number 17 of 2021 concerning Management of Lobster (Panulirus spp), Crab (Scylla spp), and Rajungan (Portunus spp) in the Territory of the Republic of Indonesia.

Meanwhile, in 2021 the volume of lobster exports will reach 1,959.9 tons or 28.61 million US dollars. Meanwhile, in 2022 the volume of lobster exports will reach 1,469.6 tons or the equivalent of US$25.7 million.

Then, in January-May 2023 the volume of lobster exports was 361.7 tons or 6.4 million US dollars.

Based on KKP data, Vietnam is one of the countries with the largest number of export receipts of fry from Indonesia, reaching 99.9 percent.

With this acceptance, Vietnam was also able to export lobsters of up to 2.5 billion US dollars.
