Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that small industry players in Indonesia are dominated by women.

This is based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

"In 2022, small women industry entrepreneurs will reach 70.26 percent of the total national small industry entrepreneurs," said Minister of Industry Agus when giving his remarks at the Exhibition on Superior Products entitled Creative Women, Advanced Economy, Advanced Indonesia at the Ministry of Industry Building, Wednesday, December 6.

Agus said that figure increased compared to 2021 which reached 67.85 percent.

Small industry business actors dominate in the food industry, textiles, finished clothing, other processing industries, the pharmaceutical industry, as well as chemical and traditional medicinal products.

In terms of manpower, Agus said, there were 4.58 million or almost 49 percent of female workers from the total business actors in the small industrial sector in Indonesia.

"This figure has increased compared to 2021 and 2020, which sequentially reached 47 percent and 48 percent," said Agus.

In general, Agus said, the performance of the non-oil and gas processing sector will increase in the third quarter of 2023.

He said the non-oil and gas processing sector grew by 5.02 percent.

"This growth is above the national economic growth average which is recorded at 4.94 percent," he said.

According to Agus, the Ministry of Industry has a program to improve human resource competence and product quality development to encourage women's involvement in the industrial sector, especially on small and medium scale.

"It is hoped that it can create jobs, increase family income or family standard of living, family welfare and community welfare," he said.

Therefore, Agus encourages business actors for small and medium industries to continue to innovate and develop their capacity to run their business.

"So, the products produced can compete in the market by utilizing the maximum resources you have together," he added.
