JAKARTA - In an effort to increase the distribution capacity of fuel oil (BBM), PT Hutama Karya (Persero) is speeding up the completion of the Cilacap-Bandung 3 (CB 3) pipeline development project owned by PT Pertamina Patra Niaga which stretches from Lomanis, Cilacap to Tasikmalaya, West Java along 126 km.

According to the plan, the project is targeted to be completed by 2024.

"The overall progress currently reaches 76 percent and is targeted for completion in May 2024," said Director of Operations II Hutama Karya Gunadi as quoted from Hutama Karya's official website, Wednesday, December 6.

Gunadi said the CB 3 pipeline project would replace the function of the CB 1 pipeline, which is a multifunctional pipe to distribute gasoline (Pertalite, Pertamax) and gasoil (Solar, Dex).

It is known that the CB 1 pipeline has been operating for 42 years, so Pertamina's attention is in meeting the needs of fuel supply.

"Because it has exceeded the technical age of the pipeline, which is 20 years, so the level of reliability and security has decreased," he said.

In accelerating development, Hutama Karya has carried out a series of innovations, including the use of the Horizontal Directive Drilling (HDD) method for pipe planting in urban and densely populated locations by always coordinating and socializing well with stakeholders.

The installation of the CB 3 pipeline is also carried out carefully to avoid damage because it is on the same track as the CB 1 and CB 2 pipes at the same time to save the cost of recovery.

The work that has been completed includes planting 113 km of pipes or equivalent to progress, which in total currently reaches 76 percent of the pig-launcher and pig-receiver installations at TBBM Lomanis and TBBM Tasikmalaya.

Then, at the installation of pipes above Jakadenda 2 Bridge, Condong Bridge and several other locations with a target completion of everything next year.

The Engineering project, Procurement and Construction (EPC) is being worked on through an operating cooperation scheme (KSO) with PT Timas Suplindo (Timas) (KSO HKTS). Currently, the work is still running with the remaining scope of 12 km of pipe planting, improvement and trial stages.

Furthermore, Gunadi said that the CB 3 pipeline was designed with a planned flow speed of 900 km/hour with a diameter of 20 inches or about 50 cm or greater than the CB 1 and CB 2 pipes of 10 inch and 16 inch, respectively.

"With a distribution capacity that is twice as large, the CB 3 pipeline is targeted to be able to meet fuel needs, especially for the South part of West Java," he added.
