JAKARTA - Asian Development Bank (ADB) supports the development of the Capital City of the Archipelago (IKN) based on carbon emission expense or net zero emission (NZE). Support is provided by launching a Net Zero Strategy Strategy for IKN.

Director General of ADB for Southeast Asia Winfried Wicklein said the strategy was prepared as a guide for the Archipelago Capital Authority (OIKN) in planning, developing, and managing cities to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045.

"This strategy not only presents real actions that realize Indonesia's modern and sustainable vision, but also represents Indonesia's real efforts in fighting climate change and contributing to broader climate actions in Asia and the Pacific," he said in his official statement, quoted Tuesday, December 5.

He said the strategy for carbon neutrality covers five focal areas. First, reversing deforestation into reforestation. Second, ADB supports OIKN not to use fossil fuels for energy, electricity and transportation.

Third, focus on the design and material of green buildings. The fourth is to promote a circular economic approach through a reduced system (Reduce), reuse (Reuse), and recycle (Recycle).

Last or fifth is creating climate-friendly agriculture and encouraging regenerative agricultural practices to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

In addition, Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has also provided financial support, managed by ADB, for the development of the Nusantara Net Zero Strategy.

"This brings us closer to realizing the vision of the archipelago as a modern capital that aims to balance emission reduction, green economic growth, climate justice, climate resilience, and social inclusive development," said OIKN Head Bambang Susantono.
