JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry has opened its voice regarding vehicle problems that exceed the limits and over-dimension overload (ODOL) ahead of the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holidays.

Previously, Chairman of Commission V DPR RI Lasarus suggested forming a working committee (peanja) to resolve the problem of ODOL vehicles.

"This ODOL is a problem that is actually a protracted problem. In the LLAJ Law, it is clear that violations of ODOL have rules, namely 2 months imprisonment or a fine of Rp. 500 thousand. The problem arises if we apply it, how many ODOL cars now, how many people have to go to prison today. This is a matter of law enforcement," said Lasarus after being met at the DPR RI Building, Jakarta, Tuesday, November 21.

Lasarus said the ODOL problem was also related to three other ministries, namely the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin), the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag), and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

According to him, the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Trade have not yet made a permit related to production, which is directly related to the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) regarding vehicle type tests in carrying production goods.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) Febri Hendri Antoni Arif said that his party had indeed given permits related to production to industrial companies.

This is because demand in the industrial sector has increased significantly ahead of Nataru's momentum.

"The request for packaged drinks, food, clothing, shoe industry, footwear, is also a lot because Nataru's activities are mostly carried out outdoors. So, we also follow the industrial pattern," Febri told VOI at the Ministry of Industry Building, Jakarta, quoted Friday, December 1.

Febri assessed that if his party limited the amount of production in the sub-sector, it was feared that it would cause the national industrial economy to weaken.

"If there is a lot of demand for industrial patterns in Nataru, yes, we will follow it. If for example there is a lot of demand, then we brake, yes, sorry for our economy, sorry for our industry," he said.

Therefore, said Febri, his party wanted to be invited to sit down together to find a solution related to the ODOL vehicle problem.

"So, we welcome if we are invited to the meeting later," he added.
